What Happens to Junior Consultants?
This is a training issue as much as a delivery issue.
Junior consultants have usually learned by doing the lower-level work: tickets, configuration, QA, data cleanup, reporting, and meeting notes.
If that work is automated, the apprenticeship shifts earlier toward structured decision work. Removing it entirely does not work; skipping directly to strategy does not work either.
People still need to learn how systems fail and how workshop-level decisions become edge cases in production.

- Retire the old process only after trust is proven.
Good consulting includes a better exit option: stopping work that is no longer needed.

The best operators and consultants in this phase tend to look different:
- Close to operators and workflow realities
- Comfortable with technical evaluation
- Able to simplify architecture without breaking momentum
- Capable of embedding operations change alongside shipped features
- Willing to say “we should not build this” when it adds risk
The direction is clear: build capacity keeps rising. Judgment capacity becomes the real advantage.
AI agents make delivery faster. That makes it more important to keep selecting the right work and executing it safely.
